It has been a sparkling start to the season for the Waterloo women's hockey team and at the centre of their success is the league's leading scorer, Leah Herrfort.
Herrfort, a third-year forward from Palmerston, Ont., has come out of the gates quickly for the black and gold, and this past weekend was no exception, with Herrfort collecting a total of five points in the two wins.
In a close contest with TMU, Herrfort assisted on the team's lone goal in regulation, and with the Warriors and Bold all knotted up in overtime, the arts and business student provided the heroics with the game-winner to keep Waterloo's undefeated season intact. There was a little more separation in the team's encore outing over the weekend against York, and after seeing each side light the lamp early in the first, Herrfort took over from there. She assisted on what proved to be the game-winner late in the opening period, before scoring herself halfway through the second. A second assist - and third point in the game - came on the team's final tally, and helped her cap of the weekend with points on five of Waterloo's six goals overall.
Herrfort is now tied with teammate Tatum James with 11 points and sits alone atop the conference with seven goals.
Ethan Cagalj, Soccer, McMaster

It was a tremendous week for McMaster goalkeeper Ethan Cagalj, and with an OUA all-star nod and championship trophy in tow, the Marauder men's soccer standout adds a weekly accolade as well.
McMaster's first test of the week came via a semifinal fixture against Nipissing, wherein the Stoney Creek, Ont. native made four saves in a clean sheet against their North Bay opponents. The shutout helped the Marauders earn a spot in Saturday's OUA championship against the TMU Bold, and much to the delight of the Hamilton squad, it was more of the same from their first-year goalkeeper.
The humanities student came up big once again in his banner season debut, not only ensuring that nothing found its way to the back of the net, despite some high-danger chances from their championship combatants, but also playing a key role in the team's counterattack.
Cagalj's second clean sheet of the week anchored McMaster's first OUA title in a decade and helped him wrap up the conference postseason slate with 15 saves and a 0.33 goals-against average.
