Raymond, Hilton named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Oceane Raymond and Olivia Hilton have been named OUA athletes of the week, fueled by Milk2Go Sport, for the period ending January 15, 2023.
Oceane Raymond, Volleyball, Nipissing
The Nipissing women’s volleyball team picked up a pair of wins this past weekend against Trent, with Oceane Raymond leading the charge offensively in the team’s first two victories of 2023.
Looking to keep the Excalibur winless on the season, the Lakers turned to their talented outside hitter from Ottawa, Ont. to anchor the attack. Raymond came out swinging in the opener, notching 15 kills and 17 points in the Lakers’ three-set sweep on Friday night. She would do so on a .333 hitting percentage, while chipping in with two service aces and five digs. In the encore, however, Raymond outdid herself.
Facing off once again on Saturday, the first-year education major was unstoppable when the ball came her way. Raymond notched a blistering 26 kills with a .415 success rate, while also adding eight digs and another pair of service aces. She would finish with a season-best 28.5 points for the now 5-7 Nipissing squad, good for over seven points per set.
On the season, Raymond now sits third in kills per set (3.74) and fourth in points per set (4.3) among her conference colleagues.
Olivia Hilton, Hockey, Toronto
Toronto entered the week atop the nation’s women’s hockey ranks and thanks in large part to a four-point weekend from one of their blueliners, they added another pair of wins to their impressive record this season.
Putting up points is nothing new for Olivia Hilton, especially of late, but she outdid herself this past weekend in a back-to-back with Queen’s. In their first test with the Tricolour, the second-year defender from Tecumseh, Ont. notched a goal and an assist for the top-ranked Blues. Her tally, which was the team’s third of the game, came less than a minute into the second period and proved to be the game-winner in what wrapped up as a 5-2 Toronto win.
The following night, Hilton got right back to it with her second goal of the weekend, finding the back of the net just 1:37 into the game. The kinesiology major would match her previous game’s output with a helper on Toronto’s tying goal late in the middle frame, before seeing her team finish off with a 3-2 win.
Hilton is now riding a five-game point streak, which has her ranked fourth among OUA rearguards for the season with 10 points in 11 games overall.
