Berg, Chadwick, Brown-Henderson named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Adam Berg, Julia Chadwick, and Najee Brown-Henderson have been named OUA athletes of the week, fueled by Milk2Go Sport, for the period ending January 22, 2023.
Adam Berg, Hockey, Brock
Adam Berg burst onto the scoresheet in a big way this weekend, notching eight points in just a pair of games for the Brock Badgers men’s hockey team.
Berg, a fourth-year business communications major, was a driving force for the Badgers offence and powerplay in back-to-back wins this week. The veteran forward began his weekend with a three-point outing in a 5-2 win at Western, notching two goals – including one with the man advantage – along with an assist on the eventual game-winner.
The Calgary, Alta. product outdid himself the following game, setting a new single-game career high with five points against the No. 6 Lancers. With two goals, including the game-winner, and three assists in Brock’s 7-4 win over Windsor, Berg boosted himself into the OUA’s top-10 in both goals (12) and points (24) this season. He also set new season-best marks for himself, even with another six games still to go on the Badgers’ regular season slate.
Julia Chadwick, Basketball, Queen’s
Much like she has been all season for the Gaels women’s basketball team, Julia Chadwick was all over the scoresheet in Queen’s two convincing weekend wins.
Chadwick produced a pair of double-doubles in Queen’s back-to-back wins, doing so in an efficient manner on both occasions. To kick off the week, the fifth-year forward collected 17 points and 17 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action in the Gaels 77-47 win over Windsor. She would add four assists and three steals to her well-rounded stat line as well.
Not to be outdone, it was another dominant showing against Western in what was a 41-point victory for Queen’s. En route to the Tricolour eclipsing the century mark, Chadwick chipped in with 20 points and another 15 boards, to go along with three more steals and assists, respectively. Making the padded outing even more impressive was that the arts and science major from Ottawa, Ont. did all of that in just 21 minutes of play.
The games marked Chadwick’s eighth and ninth double-doubles on the year for the lone undefeated team remaining in the OUA, having done so now in each of her four games played since the calendar turned to 2023.
Najee Brown-Henderson, Basketball, Windsor
Efficient and effective across Windsor’s two games on the hardwood, Najee Brown-Henderson was an offensive sparkplug for the Lancers this weekend.
In tough against No. 4-ranked Queen’s on Friday, Brown-Henderson carried the Lancers right down to the wire, and even in what turned out to be a one-point loss, made sure his side gave the Gaels all they could handle. Shooting 60% from the field, the senior guard poured in a game-high 39 points on the night, to go along with seven assists and three rebounds.
As if that wasn’t enough, the social science major was right back at it the following night against Ontario Tech. This time, Brown-Henderson’s game-high scoring performance anchored the Lancers to a victory, 85-73 over the Ridgebacks, with the Windsor, Ont. native leading the way with 31 points. He would round out his second-straight electrifying outing with nine assists and three rebounds, all while shooting 64.7%.
Brown-Henderson’s back-to-back 30-point games vaulted him up to fourth in conference scoring, now sitting at 20.4 points per game on the year, and marked his two highest scoring and most efficient shooting games of the season.
