
Banner Season: Lions roar ahead with trio of opening day victories
*Note that following a change in results after Day 1's conclusion, the previous draw between Toronto and Western was changed to a 6-4 win for the latter, putting Western's record at 2-0-0 and Toronto's at 1-1-0 through their opening two matches.
Toronto, Ont. (via TMU Bold) – Day one of the 2023 OUA Badminton Championship saw the York Lions separate themselves in Pool B, while the Western Mustangs and Toronto Varsity Blues sit tied atop Pool A.
The Lions, last year’s silver medalists, started their day with a 7-3 victory over the Waterloo Warriors. In their next two matches, the Lions breezed through both the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and host TMU Bold by 10-0 score lines.
Second place in Pool B belongs to Waterloo after the Warriors bounced back from their opening tie loss with wins over the McMaster Marauders and the Ridgebacks.
Over in Pool A, Toronto and Western opened their championships with 10-0 victories before clashing in the final tie of the day. The two sides played to a 5-5 draw, leaving them both with 1-0-1 records and three points to top the standings.
Pool play continues on Saturday morning before placement matches begin at 3:00p.m. from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Kerr Hall.
