Martina Fedel put her best foot forward to start the new year, as the Guelph Gryphons netminder was just about unbeatable in leading her team to a pair of wins to open up 2023.
The Guelph goalie began the January schedule by completely shutting down the Western offence on Friday. Fedel had 21 shots come her way from the Mustangs, but she was up to the task at every turn, securing what was her second shutout against Western of the season in the 3-0 triumph.
Fedel carried the momentum into Guelph's following game, where the native of Trento, Italy continued to shine between the pipes. Despite being busier on the second half of the team's back-to-back on Saturday, the second-year animal biology major picked up her second win in as many days. The sophomore turned away all but one of TMU's 34 shots, picking up 33 saves in a tight 2-1 road win over the Bold.
With her stingy two-game stretch in tow, Fedel now boasts a 1.59 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in her 13 games played for Guelph.

It was a dynamic start to the year for Elijah Roberts, as the TMU defenceman - and new dad, following the birth of his daughter earlier in the week - authored a five-point showing across the Bold's two games.
After Western took the early lead in TMU's first game of the week, Roberts, a child and youth care major, played the role of distributor to help get his team right back in it. The second-year defender picked up assists on the Bold's first and second goals of the game, respectively, before adding a third on their insurance marker late in the final period.
In TMU's second game of the week, the Brampton, Ont. product continued to offer up the offence in a back-and-forth tilt with No. 10 Brock. The dynamic defender evened up the game for the second time late in the middle frame before picking up the helper on the game-winner halfway through the third period. His two-point performance proved key in the Bold's big 5-3 win over the nationally-ranked Badgers.
Roberts now sits fourth on the team in scoring, bringing his total up to 14 points (five goals, nine assists) on the year.
