
Banner Season: Gryphons sweep championship titles for sixth straight year
Windsor, Ont. (via Windsor Lancers) – For the sixth straight year, the Guelph Gryphons have swept the team titles at the OUA Track & Field Championships.
The Gryphon women dominated the standings, claiming gold with 225 points. The Western Mustangs placed second overall with 156 points, and the Toronto Varsity Blues won bronze with 72 points.

TEAM STANDINGS
The men’s side of the standings saw the same finish with the Gryphons winning gold with 183 points, the Mustangs capturing silver with 112 points and the Varsity Blues bought home bronze with 104 points.
Aside from four events on day two of the competition, the Gryphons captured medals in every event, including Emily Fawcett who kicked off the day with gold in the women’s weight throw. Mark Bujnowski captured his second medal of the meet in the men’s shot put with a throw of 18.59m.
Another impressive highlight for the Gryphons was Aiden Anger in the men’s pole vault. Anger patiently waited for the bar to hit 4.46m and then claimed gold after clearing the height in only one attempt.
Windsor’s Mandy Brunet secured her second medal of the meet with a gold in the women’s triple jump. The senior placed first overall in the event with a jump of 12.47m. Teammate Jaidyn Nyhoff captured the bronze at 12.11m. Toronto’s Kristen Schultz placed second at 12.26m.
The Varsity Blues’ Jasmine Lew also claimed her second medal of the meet with a bronze in the women’s 60m (7.38s). Teammate Onome Gbinije claimed silver in the event with a time of 7.38 seconds.
Teams will now prepare for the U SPORTS Championships on March 9-11, 2023 in Saskatoon, SK, hosted by the University of Saskatchewan.
