OUA announces Kauri LaFontaine as new Manager of Sport
The Laurentian University alumna, who also completed a post grad at Durham College in project management, brings several years of experience to the conference, including multiple roles with the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) since 2018. With the OBA, LaFontaine most recently served as the Senior Director of Basketball Operations, responsible for the direction of basketball in the high-performance and development streams.
"We are looking forward to adding Kauri to our OUA team," said Gord Grace, OUA President & CEO. "Kauri has been a positive figure within the sport community for several years, thriving in operational and developmental roles at both the provincial and national levels, and will surely bring a wealth of expertise as she returns to the varsity sport landscape."
No stranger to university athletics, Kauri brings first-hand knowledge to the position from her time spent on the court and the sidelines with her alma mater. Having suited up with the Voyageurs during her post-secondary stint there, and served as interim head coach for their women's basketball program for the 2017-18 season, LaFontaine is eager to return to the university sport environment.
"I am really excited to be joining such an amazing team at the OUA," said LaFontaine. "I can't wait to be involved in the execution of post-secondary athletics as it has such a positive impact on young athletes' lives. I am eager to work with the staff at the institutions who support the athletes, coaches, and OUA day in and day out."
Beyond her basketball background, the Whitby, Ont. native also worked with Rugby Canada for two years as the training and education administrator, assisting in the delivery of those pieces for coaches and match officials and working with each provincial union.
LaFontaine will begin her tenure with the OUA on September 6th, 2022.
