Diversity in Sports Conference
"Diversity in sport must evolve to support the principle that everyone is included; everyone is treated the same way with equal access to all aspects of the organization."
- Hon. Hugh Fraser, Chair of the Board, Hockey Canada
The inaugural Diversity in Sports Conference, presented by Ontario University Athletics, was dedicated to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in amateur sports, offering a wide variety of resources and strategies to help create a more inclusive sports environment.
Attendees joined us for workshops and training sessions designed specifically for emerging BIPOC leaders, coaches, officials, and sport administrators; networked with like-minded individuals and built relationships that support EDI efforts; learned from knowledgeable keynote speakers, who offered practical advice on creating a more inclusive sports culture; and promoted allyship and inclusion to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
This game-changing event was open to the public and welcomed sport enthusiasts, athletes, coaches, administrators, and advocates alike.
The OUA believes that creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive sports environment requires ongoing effort and commitment, which starts with all of us.
"There's so much good information that can be absorbed from here, and we can all be part of the change within Canada if we all actively engage in conversations like this."
- Farkhunda Muhtaj, Professional Soccer Player & Social Activist
