Following a season wherein the field was split into two divisions, the conference returns to a makeup of East, West, and Central groupings for the 2022-23 campaign. Each team will play a pair of games against their divisional foes and will round out their 22-game schedules with a single meeting against their remaining conference combatants.
All eyes will be on the Fairall Fieldhouse for opening night, as the Windsor Lancers prepare to host a pair of games against the Western Mustangs on November 1st to officially kick off the campaign. Next to take the court just two days later are the Queen's Gaels, who host the Laurentian Voyageurs in Kingston, and the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, who welcome the Nipissing Lakers to Oshawa.
A flurry of action will follow on November 4th and 5th, including the Toronto Varsity Blues taking on both the reigning champions on the women's and men's side. The Blues will first battle the Brock Badgers on Saturday, whose men's team topped the field to claim the 2022 Wilson Cup, before turning their attention to the reigning Critelli Cup and Bronze Baby winners from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) on Sunday.
The national champions on the men's side, meanwhile, will open with a pair of games on their home court, as the Carleton Ravens welcome the York Lions to the Raven's Den on November 4th and the McMaster Marauders the following night. Just a couple weeks later, on November 18th, Carleton will contend with Queen's, the team that ended their Wilson Cup push in the conference semifinals a season ago.
A total of five weeks' worth of games will hit the hardwood before the fall semester comes to a close on December 4th, with play then returning with a pair of women's and men's games on January 4th. All three Toronto-based teams will take part in those initial 2023 contests, including a head-to-head meeting for the Blues and the York Lions, before a flurry of remaining teams flood the weekend calendar from there. For the likes of Brock and Queen's, they will start their new year's slate with a men's championship rematch, as the most recent Wilson Cup combatants headline the calendar year's first full weekend of action with a game in Kingston, Ont.
The high profile tilts continue into February, with all eyes on the nation's capital in Week 10 for the always enticing Capital Hoops contests. The Ottawa Gee-Gees will play host to the Ravens for the latest edition of the marquee matchups on February 3rd, prior to the rivals then meeting again on February 15th as part of the regular season's final week of play.
Before the curtain closes on the regular season, a home-and-home between the Critelli Cup combatants from the past two campaigns will also take to the courts. TMU will head to Brock for the first time since their thrilling comeback win in the 2022 conference finale, with the Badgers then heading to the Mattamy Athletic Centre the following day, the site of their OUA championship triumph in 2020.
February 19th then marks the final entries before the postseason push, with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and Algoma Thunderbirds locking horns to bring the regular season to its final buzzer.
12 teams will then turn the page to the postseason, which will unfold over the course of four rounds. The top four seeds, which will include the three division winners and the next best record, will earn a first round bye, but while the division winners are each guaranteed an opening round bye, they are not guaranteed a top-three position. For example, if a team that finishes second in one of the divisions posts a better record than a first-place team from another division, the former will be ranked higher within the top-four.
Seeds five through 12, meanwhile, will go head-to-head on February 22nd to open the playoffs, with the four winners advancing to take on the top-seeded squads in Round 2 (Feb. 25th). The remaining four teams will compete in the semifinals on March 1st and the OUA seasons will come to a close with the Critelli Cup and Wilson Cup championships on March 4th.
