Lancers Getty, Golden Hawks Brown earn OUA Peak Performers of the Week
Burlington, Ont. – Alyssa Getty and Jaron Brown have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Peak Performers of the Week for the period ending October 13, 2019.
Peak Performer –Alyssa Getty, Windsor Lancers, Golf
In her first OUA championship appearance, Windsor Lancers standout Alyssa Getty claimed the Judy McCrae Trophy as the women’s individual champion, shooting a two-day total of 154 (79,75). Thanks to her patient play, and ability to avoid any serious trouble on the tricky course, Getty was able to remain steady throughout en route to leading all golfers with six birdies, while also making par on 17 holes.
“It’s a really big honour,” said Getty, who hails from Kingsville, Ont. “It’s what I’ve been working towards all season. Coming from Windsor, we are an underdog team so to come out here and show everyone that the Lancers are the real deal is really awesome. I’m really proud to be a Lancer and proud to be an OUA champion.”
Peak Performer – Jaron Brown, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Golf
Like Windsor, the Golden Hawks were also able to capture their first golf banner in program history – albeit on the men’s side – and their golden performance was anchored by 2019 OUA individual champion and winner of the Len Shore Trophy, Jaron Brown. Brown shot a two-day total of 145 (72, 73), making par on 27-of-36 holes, while also hitting four birdies, with his consistent play helping Laurier overcome a three-shot deficit after Day 1.
“It feels amazing,” said Brown, a native of Thornhill, Ont. “It’s my fourth year playing OUA golf for Laurier and to finally get our first team title is extremely important for us. It was also great to top it off with an individual win. The key to winning was just perseverance - not getting upset if you hit a bad shot and just grinding it out until the very last hole.”
