
Varsity Blues Woock, Voyageurs Gray earn OUA Athlete of the Week honours
Burlington, Ont. – Jenna Woock and Kadre Gray have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Athletes of the Week for the period ending November 24, 2019.
Female Athlete of the Week – Jenna Woock, Toronto Varsity Blues, Volleyball
A third-year health and disease major, Jenna Woock totaled 31.5 points and a .476 hitting percentage in helping the No. 4 nationally-ranked Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team to two big wins this past weekend.
The Richmond Hill, Ont., native notched 16 points with an impressive attacking percentage of .524 as the Blues upset the No. 2 Ryerson Rams, 3-2, on Friday night. Woock totaled 11 kills, four blocks and one ace, while also adding six digs, in the OUA Marquee Matchup victory. She didn’t stop there, however, as she continued her effective and efficient play into the team’s following match. Woock posted 15.5 points and a .333 hitting percentage as the Blues won their eighth straight match, 3-1, at Guelph on Sunday night. In that latest victory, she recorded nine kills and 6.5 blocks.
Her .476 hitting percentage this past weekend helped the Blues head into the December exam break tied for the top spot in the OUA East division with an 8-1 record. Woock leads all OUA players with a .441 hitting percentage.
Male Athlete of the Week – Kadre Gray, Laurentian Voyageurs, Basketball
Kadre Gray led the Voyageurs to a pair of victories over the weekend and did so in record breaking fashion, adding even more accolades to his already decorated Laurentian career.
On Friday against the seventh ranked McMaster Marauders, Gray went off for 31 points, adding nine rebounds, seven assists, and six steals in the process as the Voyageurs upset the Marauders 97-85. With his 31 points, Gray pushed his career total to 1,726 and broke the Voyageurs’ long-standing career scoring record – a mark of 1,722 points set by Norm Hann in 1993 – and moved into the top-10 in the OUA for all-time scoring.
On Saturday, Gray followed up his record-breaking night by dropping 29 points in just 29 minutes against the Brock Badgers in a 99-86 win, while adding another six rebounds and nine assists to his stat line. With his back-to-back big-time performances, Gray now leads the country in both points (206) and assists (67).
