Mustangs Ames earns OUA Peak Performer of the Week
Burlington, Ont. – Curtis Ames has been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Peak Performer of the Week for the period ending October 27, 2019.
Peak Performer – Curtis Ames, Western Mustangs, Rowing
A year after claiming Peak Performer honours in last year’s OUA Rowing Championships, Curtis Ames accomplished the feat once again after turning in a performance fitting of a team captain.
With all eyes on the Mustangs, winners of three of the last four men’s rowing banners heading into the weekend, Ames and company knew they had to perform at their best, and the Calgary, Alta. native did just that for his crew. Ames picked up a pair of gold medal results for his efforts, as part of the men’s pair (along with teammate Ryan Clegg) and the men’s eight.
With Ames at the forefront, Western earned their fourth team gold in their last five tries with a total of 535 points – nearly 100 ahead of silver medalists Brock. In addition to the team hardware, Ames took home the Male Athlete of the Year honour from the event as well, his second straight nod, to cap off his fourth year with the London squad.
