Lancers partner with Express for Clash at the Colosseum

Windsor, ON – The Windsor Lancers are pleased to announce a partnership with the Windsor Express for the fourth annual Clash at the Colosseum on February 8, 2017 at Caesars Windsor.
 
This year's event will feature a triple-header of basketball games pitting Windsor against teams from the Waterloo region. The Lancers will kick off the event taking on the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in an Ontario University doubleheader. The women will tip-off at 3 p.m. followed by the men's game at 5 p.m. The Express will then face off against league newcomers the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans at 8 p.m. This event marks the first time the Lancers and Express have teamed up to play on the same court.
 
"The Lancers, along with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, are excited to partner with the Windsor Express as participants in the 4th Annual Clash at the Colosseum," said University of Windsor Director of Athletics Mike Havey. "The opportunity to play in this world class entertainment venue provides a unique and exciting opportunity for our basketball teams to bring our product to a different audience."

"Basketball is one of the fastest growing sports in this country and having the opportunity to showcase our teams at a venue like Caesars Windsor will be an experience our student-athletes will never forget."
 
Both the University of Windsor women's and men's basketball programs are perennial powerhouses in Canadian University Basketball and have both been ranked in the top ten nationally for the better part of the past decade. The Lancer women's team is currently ranked fifth in the nation and are looking for their sixth national championship title in the last seven years after winning five in a row from 2011-2015. Under the guidance of head coach Chantal Vallée, the Lancers currently sit tied for first place in the OUA west division standings with the Golden Hawks.
 
On the men's side, head coach Chris Oliver's team is in search of their seventh OUA West division title in the past ten years and also looking for their fourth trip to the national championship tournament. Standing in their way are the Golden Hawks who are currently neck and neck with the Lancers atop the western conference standings.
 
"The Windsor Express have done an incredible job creating unique and fun events for their fans and we honoured to be a part of the clash representing our university and program," commented Oliver.
 
Fans who purchase a ticket to this season's Clash at the Colosseum will be able to attend all three games. Tickets will be on sale online December 7, 2016 and are available at www.windsorexpress.ca
 
A special discounted ticket will be available on campus in the athletic department for all current University of Windsor students.
