MALE: Manny Diressa (Toronto, Ont.) – 4th yr – Ryerson Rams – Basketball
After leading his hometown team to a second straight Wilson Cup title, Ryerson Rams guard Manny Diressa (Toronto, Ont.) has been named the Investors Group OUA Male Athlete of the Week.
On Friday in the semifinals against the No. 3 nationally ranked Gee-Gees, Diressa, a fourth-year Business Management major, scored 20 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and three steals as Ryerson beat uOttawa 76-75.
Diressa wasn’t done there as the Toronto, Ont. native scored 24 points, all in the second half, to lead the Rams to second consecutive Wilson Cup win over the No. 1 ranked Carleton Ravens on Saturday. The 6’5” guard also added seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals in 36 minutes of action. Following the game, Diressa was recognized for his effort as he was named the Porter Airlines Player of the Game.
Diressa and the Rams will now head to Halifax later this week as the No. 1 seed for the ArcelorMittal Dofasco U SPORTS Final 8
FEMALE: Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Carleton Ravens – Basketball
For her role in their first OUA women’s basketball championship in program history, Carleton Ravens forward Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, Ont.) has been named the Investors Group OUA Female Athlete of the Week.
Lindsay, a fourth-year Environmental Studies student-athlete, had a team-high 20 points in Carleton’s 55-54 semifinal victory over the McMaster Marauders on Friday night. She also recorded six rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 34 minutes for the Ravens.
In Saturday’s final against the host Queen’s Gaels, the Ottawa, Ont. native recorded a double-double with a game-high 15 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks as Carleton captured the Critelli Cup for the first time in program history. Lindsay was also named the Porter Airlines Player of the Game.
Led by Lindsay, the Ravens will soar onto the campus of the University of Victoria as the No. 1 seeded team for the ArcelorMittal Dofasco U SPORTS Final 8
