MALE: Kaza Kajami-Keane (Ajax, Ont.) – 5th yr – Carleton Ravens – Basketball
It was a great week for the Carleton Ravens and guard Kaza Kajami-Keane (Ajax, Ont.) who has been named Investors Group OUA Male Athlete of the Week.
In a rare three-game week, Kajami-Keane and the Ravens went a perfect 3-0 as the extended their season-long winning streak to 12 straight games.
On Tuesday night against their crosstown rivals, the No. 2 nationally ranked uOttawa Gee-Gees, the fifth-year communication and media studies major, had 10 points, six rebounds and two assists in just 19 minutes of action as the Ravens dominated the Gee-Gees 81-40.
Returning to the Ravens' Nest on Friday night, it was business as usual for the Ajax, Ont. native as he had 20 points, three rebounds and three assists as Carleton defeated Guelph 90-54.
Kajami-Keane saved his biggest performance of the week for last as on Saturday night against the Thunderwolves, the 6-foot-1 guard had 27 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, narrowly missing out on a triple-double, as Carleton beat up on Lakehead 96-58.
Through 12 games this season, Kajami-Keane ranks 10th in the conference, averaging 17.1 points per game. Kajami-Keane will look to keep it going on Friday night as the Ravens make the trip to the “Rose City” to take on the Windsor Lancers.
FEMALE: Karen Collins (Bancroft, Ont.) – 2nd yr. – Lauentian Voyageurs – Hockey
Laurentian goaltender Karen Collins (Bancroft, Ont.) has been named the Investors Group OUA Female Athlete of the Week as she backstopped the Voyageurs women’s hockey team a pair of wins this past weekend.
Collins, a second-year Sports Administration student-athlete, turned aside all 24 shots she faced on Saturday as the Voyageurs blanked the visiting Ryerson Rams 1-0.
The Bancroft, Ont. native followed that up on Sunday as she made 20 saves as the Vees beat the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 4-1. After allowing a goal less than a minute into the game, Collins settled down and shut out the Blues over the final 59 minutes for her fourth win of the season.
In six games this season, Collins ranks fifth in OUA with a 1.82 goals against average and sixth with a .932 save percentage.
Next up, Collins and the Voyaguers will head to Kingston, Ont. on Friday as they look to bring an end to the Gaels seven-game winning streak.
