The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team stayed alive in their OUA West quarter-final matchup with the York Lions with a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 20) at Varsity Arena.
Game 3 is set for tomorrow, Sunday, February 21, at 2 p.m. at Canlan Ice Sports. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
Momentum started with the Blues as rookie forward Matt Campagna opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first period. With an open shot from the right wing, Campagna sent a missile top shelf, beating Lions goaltender Chris Perugini to take the 1-0 lead. The goal is the rookie forward's first career OUA playoff marker.
Holding onto the 1-0 lead into the second period, York mounted serious pressure on U of T, finally solving Blues goalie Andrew Hunt midway through the second period with two goals only a minute apart to take a 2-1 lead.
However, Toronto responded with two of their own late in the period as Casey Knight utilized a screened Perugini to tie the game, while Blues leading goal scorer Patrick Marsh finished off the rebound from a Corey Jackson point shot with just three seconds left in the frame to restore the one goal lead, 3-2 Varsity Blues.
Then in the third, Toronto goaltender Andrew Hunt took over shutting out the Lions in the period, while making 27 saves in the game.
