OTTAWA (CIS) – Meg Casault, a volleyball player from the University of Alberta, and Mike Moffat, a hockey player from the University of Waterloo, are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Dec. 6, 2015.
Casault, a fourth-year physical education and recreation student from Edmonton, racked up 41 kills and 27 digs in only seven sets of action as the nationally top-ranked Pandas swept a two-game series against Brandon to end the fall semester with an unblemished 12-0 record. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter had 22 kills and 12 digs in a four-set win last Friday and added 19 kills and 15 digs in a 3-0 victory the following night to finish the weekend with a remarkable average of 5.9 kills per set. A two-time CIS all-Canadian, Casault currently ranks second in Canada West in both kills (4.68) and points (5.4) per set.
Brock wrestler Olivia Di Bacco was also nominated for the women's award.
Moffat, a second-year kinesiology student from Waterloo, Ont., scored a natural hat trick and assisted on the game-winner to help the Warriors even their league record to .500 (8-8) with a thrilling 6-5 victory over visiting Western in their first-half finale, last Friday. With his team down 2-1 midway through the first period, the 6-foot-1, 240-pound defenceman exploded for three straight power play goals in a span of 20 minutes and, after the Mustangs came back to tie it at five apiece, helped set up Andrew Smith's winning marker with 28 second left in the third frame. Thanks to his four-point performance, the OHL grad (London, Kingston) is averaging over a point a game (5-11-16 in 15 GP) heading into the December break.
