OTTAWA (CIS) – Léa Chastenay-Joseph, a soccer player from Laval University, and Andrew D'Agostini, a hockey player from the University of Guelph, are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 18, 2015.
Chastenay-Joseph, a third-year actuarial student from Donnacona, Que., tallied four goals, including both game-winners, and three assists in two games as the nationally top-ranked and reigning CIS champion Rouge et Or (8-0-2) remained undefeated on the season. The prolific striker scored all of her team's goals last Friday night in a 3-0 road win over perennial national contender Montreal, and racked up four more points on Sunday in a 6-0 shutout against Bishop's, when she opened the scoring in the fourth minute before adding three first-half helpers.
Dalhousie swimmer Phoebe Lenderyou, York soccer player Nour Ghoneim and Trinity Western soccer player Ali Oliverio were also nominated for the women's award.
D'Agostini, a second-year public management student from Scarborough, Ont., was sensational in net despite the reigning OUA champion Gryphons splitting their weekend series against Ryerson and Waterloo. Last Thursday in Toronto, the 5-foot-11 goaltender turned aside 31 of 33 pucks, including a penalty shot, in a narrow 2-1 loss to the Rams. On Saturday, on the night Guelph unveiled its 2014-15 OUA championship banner at the Gryphon Centre, the former Peterborough Pete brought the home fans to their feet with a 40-save performance, including 23 in the third period, in a 1-0 shutout win over the Warriors.
Hockey players Ben Duffy from Saint Mary's and Tyler Fiddler from Mount Royal were the other male nominees.
