OTTAWA (CIS) – Kylie Masse, a swimmer from the University of Toronto, and Andrew D'Agostini, a hockey player from the University of Guelph, are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 29, 2015.
Masse, a second-year kinesiology major from LaSalle, Ont., claimed six gold medals, including five in meet record time and one in Canadian record time, to help the U of T women win the team title at the OUA Fairweather division championships in Toronto. The 19-year-old sophomore swept the three backstroke events, added a fourth individual gold in the 200-metre medley, while also leading the 200 and 400 freestyle relays to victory. On Saturday, she clocked 26.84 seconds in the 50 back to break the previous Canadian short-course mark of 27.00.
Acadia basketball player Allie Berry, Montreal volleyball player Marie-Alex Bélanger and UBC swimmer Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson were also nominated for the women's award.
D'Agostini, a second-year public management student from Scarborough, Ont., was unbeatable this past weekend, turning aside all 76 shots he faced to help the Gryphons (9-6) defeat nationally eighth-ranked Carleton 2-0 and RMC 3-0. The 5-foot-11 goaltender opened the two-game set with a 33-save performance against the Ravens last Friday night in Ottawa, and followed up with a 43-save effort versus the Paladins Saturday in Kingston. D'Agostini currently ranks second in the country in save percentage (.936) and third in goals against average (2.07).
