The Windsor Lancers are pleased to announce that men’s hockey head coach Kevin Hamlin has signed a three year contract extension with the Department of Athletics.
The Windsor Lancers are pleased to announce that men's hockey head coach Kevin Hamlin has signed a three year contract extension with the Department of Athletics.
Widely considered to be among the top collegiate coaches in the province, Coach Hamlin has an outstanding record as a winning hockey coach and impressive credentials as a former player.
"We are very excited to have Kevin on board as head coach for the next three years," said athletic director Mike Havey. "Kevin have done a tremendous job with the program thus far, turning them into a national championship contender, and we are looking forward to him leading the team into the future."
Coach Hamlin's squad had a remarkable 2013-14 season as they captured the Queen's Cup OUA Championship for the second time in school history. They also finished the season ranked #5 in Canada - the programs highest ever finish in the national rankings.
En route to winning the Queen's Cup, the Lancers enjoyed a tremendous playoff run that included playoff series wins over Toronto, Western, Lakehead and McGill to earn the title. At the CIS National Championship tournament, Windsor also earned their first ever victory at Nationals as they knocked off the A.U.S. champion Acadia Axemen 4-2 in pool play.
"Our program has come a long way in a short period of time. I am thankful for having the opportunity to work with dedicated student athletes and a tremendous staff who share a common vision necessary for success," said Hamln. "This three year extension affords us the time and confidence to continue the growth process of our organization. We hope to reach our full potential with a veteran group and several freshman additions."
As part of the agreement, Coach Hamlin's hockey academy will be brought into the Lancer Summer Camps program, with all proceeds from the camps going to the Lancer men's hockey program.
