CALGARY, Alb. – Western Mustangs defenceman Katelyn Gosling has been selected as one of 32 players invited to training camp with Canada's National Women's Team being held from Jan. 25-29 at the Mastercard Centre in Etobicoke, Ont.
The invitation to camp is considered the next step towards making the roster for Team Canada for the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship.
Gosling is one of six players from Canada's National Women's Development team that have earned invites to the camp. The Development team recently brought home a gold medal from the 2016 Nations Cup in Fussen, Germany, defeating Finland 4-3 in overtime in the gold medal final.
During the three-game tournament Gosling netted her first international goal, scoring what proved to be the game winner in a 4-2 win over Russia, while also adding an assist in a pre-tournament game against the Czech Republic.
The five day camp will consist of daily practices and players will also participate in four Red-White intrasquad games. All practices and games at the game are open to the public and free of charge.
The camp will serve as an opportunity for the national team's coaching staff to evaluate players midseason. The year-long evaluation process includes all national team, development team, and under-18 team camps, along with international events and club performance. It will help the scouting and coaching staffs to select the players that will represent Canada at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship in Kamloops, B.C., from March 28 to April 4.
Gosling will return to the Mustangs following the conclusion of the camp next week. Through 15 games this season Gosling has two goals and six assists, helping the purple and white to a 10-1-4-0 record that has the team in second place in the OUA standings.
