Voyageurs hand Golden Hawks second consecutive shutout
WATERLOO, Ont. (January 15, 2016) – For the second consecutive game, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's hockey team was shutout as they lost 2-0 to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday night at the Waterloo Recreation Complex.
Despite holding a heavy shot advantage in the contest, the Hawks were unable to beat Laurentian goalie Laura Deller of Woodstock, Ont. Deller, a third year netminder, earned her second shutout of the season as she turned aside all 30 shots she faced.
Taylor Philip of Ilderton, Ont., provided the Voyageurs with all the offence they would need as she scored her first goal of the season early in the second period. Jessica Staats of Cambridge, Ont., added an empty net goal late in the third period to seal the victory for the visitors.
Hawks rookie netminder Lauren Webber of Burlington, Ont., was solid between the pipes for Laurier once again as she turned aside 16 of the 17 shots she faced.
With the win, Laurentian leapfrogs the purple and gold in the OUA standings and sit two points ahead of the Golden Hawks with a 6-2-6-2 record. Laurier, meanwhile, slides to eighth in the conference with a 7-0-6-1 mark.
The Hawks will look to return to the win column on Saturday night, January 16, when they host the Nipissing Lakers (8-1-3-3) at the Waterloo Recreation Complex. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.

Sandven shuts out Rams in Windsor
WINDSOR, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams women's hockey team was the latest victim of the Windsor Lancers current hot streak. Following a 0-1-8-1 record through their first 10 games, the Lancers won their last three in regulation and made it four with a 5-0 victory over the Rams Friday night at the South Windsor Arena. The Lancers improve to 4-1-8-1 and only seven points out of a playoff spot while Ryerson fell to 2-0-11-1 and remain at the bottom of the OUA standings.
BOXSCORE
Ingrid Sandven stopped every one of the 24 shots the Rams sent her way to pick up the shutout between the pipes. The netminder from Bergen, Norway now has two shutouts in her last three starts and a 1.00 GAA in her last four. She also picked up an assist on Krystin Lawrence's first period marker that proved to be the game winner 2:41 into the contest. Ryerson's Alex Armstrong (Mississauga, Ont.) made 34 saves in the losing effort.
The Lancers top line of Lawrence, Erinn Noseworthy and Shawna Lesperance displayed why they're one of the most dangerous in the league. The trio combined for four of Windsor's five goals and seven points. Noseworthy's goal with 34 seconds remaining in the third rounded out the scoring and bumped her into the OUA scoring lead with 17 points. Meanwhile, as a result of their three point nights, Lawrence now sits tied for second with 16 points and Lesperance tied for fourth with 15.
Playing in front of a crowd nearing 300 people, the Rams' powerplay faltered. Ryerson went an impressive 2-for-3 on the man advantage in their 3-1 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs last Sunday but, that success didn't carry over to this matchup. They didn't convert on any of their eight powerplay opportunities while the Lancers finished 1-for-8.
The Rams return to the comfort of the Mattamy Athletic Centre next weekend. Friday night they'll lace up against the 11th place York Lions (2-3-6-2) at 7:30 p.m. That tilt will precede Ryerson welcoming the No. 1 Guelph Gryphons (9-3-2-1) to their home rink Saturday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. puck drop. Both games will be available on OUA.tv.
