ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Swiss U18 Team that will be competing at the upcoming IIHF Women's Hockey U18 World Championships in St. Catharines.
"This was a great event for Brock women's hockey and helped to promote us well on the international hockey stage," said Brock head coach Margot Page. "These kind of events and me being involved with the Swiss National program is definitely a win win situation when it comes to promoting the game of women's hockey."
This is the second meeting between the two teams. The Swiss U18 Team is mentor coached by Brock women's hockey head coach and former Canadian Olympic Coach Margot Page.
The Badgers opened the scoring five minutes into the second period as Christina Ieradi setup Heather Sorley.
The Swiss Team answered back midway through the second period on a goal from Lara Zimmerman to tie the game 1-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, The Swiss added three more goals with markers from captain Kaleigh Quennec, Shannon Sigrist and Alina Muller to make it 4-1. The two teams also played a shootout to give the Swiss some experience for the World Championships and defeated the Badgers 1-0.
The Badgers return to action this weekend on the road as they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (Jan. 9) and Waterloo Warriors (Jan. 10).
