
Aboud, Keyes-Wilson, and Horvat named OUA football players of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Tristan Aboud, Robert Keyes-Wilson, and Michael Horvat have been named the Canadian Football Perspective’s OUA Players of the Week for Week 8.
Offensive Player of the Week – Tristan Aboud, Guelph
Aboud was sensational in the air all night, helping lead the Guelph Gryphons to a 33-19 win over the York Lions. The Montreal, Que. native completed 19-of-26 passes for 470 yards and three touchdowns. The chunk plays were key for the Guelph offence as they were able to pick up yards throughout the night with Aboud averaging 18.1 yards-per-attempt. Aboud's top moments from the game came in the second quarter where he connected with Willem Arseneau for 43 and 75-yard touchdowns, putting the ball right into Arseneau’s hands in stride.
The management economics and finance student finished off the regular season throwing for 1,959 yards, a 68.6 completion percentage, and 13 passing touchdowns, to put him third in each category.
Defensive Player of the Week – Robert Keyes-Wilson, Guelph
Keyes-Wilson caused havoc in the York backfield in Guelph’s 33-19 victory over the Lions on Friday night. The third-year defensive lineman finished the game with 5.5 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a pass break up, and forced a fumble. Keyes-Wilson came up with the strip sack late in the fourth quarter that helped clinch the team's sixth win of the season. The Gryphons defence as a whole would get to the Lions quarterback six times with Keyes-Wilson playing a major role.
The Mississauga, Ont. native finished his regular season with 18.5 total tackles, 5.5 sacks (3rd in OUA) and 8.5 tackles for loss (3rd in OUA).
Special Teams Player of the Week - Michael Horvat, McMaster
Horvat was responsible for scoring 16 of McMaster's 34 points in their 34-32 victory over the Warriors on Friday. The local product made four field goals in the win, with his longest of 47 yards coming halfway through the second quarter, tying the game at 10. The Marauders would put together a late drive, culminating in another Horvat field goal, giving them the 13-10 lead at halftime. In overtime it was all on Horvat’s leg. McMaster started with the ball and put together a five-play, 22-yard drive which ended with Horvat's 20-yard field goal to give them the lead and ultimately the victory.
