
Hall, Clark, Jackson named OUA football players of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Keagan Hall, Brody Clark, and Tayshaun Jackson have been named the Canadian Football Perspective’s OUA Players of the Week for Week 5.
Offensive Player of the Week – Keagan Hall, McMaster
Hall put up league leading numbers in McMaster’s 36-34 victory over the Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon.
The veteran quarterback opened the scoring with his second rushing touchdown of his career. The Burlington, Ont. product closed out the first half marching the Marauders 75 yards down the field finishing with a three-yard pass to Jackson Taylor. McMaster narrowly held onto the 19-17 lead at the half.
Hall and the McMaster offence came out strong in the second half. Hall connected with Jackson Cooling after an 83-yard drive in just two minutes. The Marauders extended their lead as Hall once again found Taylor in the end zone for six. The Ravens made it very interesting, but McMaster was able to hold them off and come away with the win.
The commerce student completed 33 passes for a total of 423 yards. He leads the OUA and U SPORTS in passing yards per game (340).
Defensive Player of the Week – Brody Clark, York
Clark showed off his extraordinary effort and technical play during the Lions match-up against the Toronto Varsity Blues this past Saturday. York secured their first notch in the win column 19-17 over Toronto in the 54th Annual Red & Blue Bowl.
Clark, from Delta, B.C., was a key defensive factor for the Lions. He secured one interception and multiple timely deflections.
As the current league leader in solo tackles (26), total tackles (34.5) and tackles per game (8.6), Clark made his presence felt in each of his 11 solo tackles on the day and 12.5 overall.
The fourth-year defensive back put in the hard work and made the critical plays necessary to secure the victory.
Special Teams Player of the Week - Tayshaun Jackson, Wilfrid Laurier
Jackson has taken the OUA by storm. The first-year running back has established himself as an electric player on special teams for the Laurier Golden Hawks. In this weekend’s Battle of Waterloo, Jackson’s exciting play helped Laurier come out on top 39-23 over the Warriors.
Waterloo opened the scoring, but their lead did not last long as Jackson collected the kickoff and ran it back for 89 yards to the end zone for the touchdown. That might have been the only major for the Windsor, Ont. native but he had 4 carries for 33 yards and another kickoff return for 23 yards.
His efforts have Laurier currently leading the OUA in kick return average.
