
Chisari, Onyeka, Lidster named OUA football players of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Jared Chisari, Ife Onyeka, and Brady Lidster have been named the Canadian Football Perspective’s OUA Players of the Week for Week 2.
Offensive Player of the Week: Jared Chisari, Queen’s
Chisari led the charge for the Queen’s Gaels in their 27-22 win over the McMaster Marauders. The Naples, Maine native had 27 attempts for 192-yards for the Gaels in their home opener. Chisari dominated the scoring for Queen’s in the first frame, rushing for over 100 yards and scoring two touchdowns. His two majors gave Queen’s the 14-0 lead after one quarter of play.
The running back’s third touchdown of the contest came late in the second quarter to extend the Gaels lead heading into the break. Chisari also had one reception for 14 yards and finished the contest with a season-high 206 yards from scrimmage.
Defensive Player of the Week: Ife Onyeka, Carleton
Ife Onyeka was a key defensive cog for the Carleton Ravens in their slim 18-15 loss to the Windsor Lancers. The defensive lineman from Brampton, Ont., had three sacks for a loss of 29 yards. His three sacks were influential in holding Windsor scoreless in the first half.
The fifth-year arts major finished with four solo tackles on the day and now leads the OUA with his three quarterback takedowns. Onyeka and the Carleton defence will now turn their attend to the Western Mustangs this weekend.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Brady Lidster, Windsor
Windsor’s Brady Lidster called game as he made a 55-yard field goal to secure the 18-15 win for the Lancers over the Carleton Ravens in the dying seconds of the ball game.
The epic ending was the only way the matchup between the Ravens and Lancers was going to be decided. With a tie game late in the fourth frame, Chris John had a 22-yard run to set up Lidster for the field goal and the Lancer comeback.
The third-year kicker from St. Thomas, Ont. set a record for the Lancers, one that was formerly held by David Pegg, who kicked a 53-yard field goal in 1974. Lidster also joins the OUA record books, tying the conference record for longest field goal, held by Campbell Fair from Ottawa in 2023 and Kevin Rydeard from Western in 1982.
The 55-yard field goal was also a personal best for Lidster with his previous long being 48 yards.
