Winners of the OUA Teams of the Month will receive a team yoga session and a shop night at their local lululemon store.
MALE: uOttawa Gee-Gees – Hockey (7-1 regular season)
The uOttawa Gee-Gees men’s hockey team has been selected as an OUA Team of the Month, presented by lululemon, after going 7-1 in the month of January
uOttawa outscored opponents 38-19 and rattled off seven consecutive regulations wins to open the new year.
The Gee-Gees opened 2017 with an 8-1 drubbing of the RMC Paladins before sweeping a rare three-game weekend series with the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves and Laurentian Voyageurs.
The following Wednesday, the Gee-Gees dispatched the defending Queen’s Cup champion UQTR Patriotes 4-2 before taking down the East Division rival Concordia Stingers on the road 6-3.
Despite the long trip down the 401 to Western, the Gee-Gees picked up another crucial road win on Jan. 27, defeating the Mustangs 5-2, before falling in the final game of the month to Guelph.
The Gee-Gees will now turn their focus to the playoffs as they will travel to Kingston on Wednesday to open their best-of-three series against the Queen’s Gaels.
FEMALE: Ryerson Rams – Volleyball (4-0 regular season)
Coming off an unbeaten month of January, the Ryerson Rams women’s volleyball team has been named an OUA Team of the Month, presented by lululemon.
The Rams dropped only four sets all month and as a team averaged 17.2 points per set, their highest mark of the season.
After a win to close out December, Ryerson picked up right where they left in January beating the York Lions 3-2 on the road.
The following weekend, Ryerson made quick work on their trip to North Bay, Ont., needing just four sets to defeat the Nipissing Lakers by a score of 3-1.
Ryerson closed out their unblemished month of January with a weekend sweep of the visiting Queen’s Gaels and RMC Paladins. On Friday night versus Queen’s, the Rams beat the Gaels 3-1 before shuting out the Paladins on Saturday.
Winners of seven of their last eight games dating back to December, Ryerson will look to keep it going on Friday when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
