CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY: Brock tops initial women's wrestling rankings
Brock, which claimed its second straight CIS banner last winter, opens ahead of Alberta, Calgary, Saskatchewan and Western in women’s competition. On the men’s side, Alberta, crowned last year for the first time since 1972, is ranked ahead of Brock, Western, Concordia and Saskatchewan.
In other CIS sports, Carleton (men’s basketball), Saint Mary’s (women’s basketball), McGill (women’s hockey), Calgary (men’s hockey), UBC (women’s swimming & women’s volleyball), Toronto (men’s swimming) and McMaster (men’s volleyball) all maintain their No. 1 status this week.
McMaster was tied with Trinity Western atop the men’s volleyball rankings last Tuesday but edged its Canada West rival by a single point in the new coaches’ poll, 257 to 256. The Marauders received 15 first-place votes compared to 13 for the Spartans.
Voting was also close in women’s basketball this week, with No. 1 Saint Mary’s earning 24 first-place votes and 475 points compared to 17 first-place nods and 468 points for the Windsor Lancers, the defending three-time CIS champs.
