WATERLOO, Ont. - The Lancer men's hockey team needed overtime to defeat the Laurier Golden Hawks, but they got it done with a 3-2 win and will advance to the OUA quarter-finals next week.
Tyson Ness scored the game winner just 4:14 into extra time as the Blue & Gold came from behind to steal the series from the third seed Hawks.
Dylan Seguin got the Lancers on the board just 2:15 into the first period to put the Lancers up early. They almost went into intermission up 1-0, but the Hawks retaliated with less than a minute remaining in the frame to tie it up.
It was then Laurier's turn to score early in the second period. Patrick Chore snuck the puck past Lancer goaltender Blake Richard at 4:38 to put the hosts up 2-0; a lead they would hold until deep in the third period.
The Lancers thought they caught their break with six minutes remaining when the Hawks were assessed a double minor for high sticking. However, the hosts killed off the penalty and went back to full strength with 1:45 to go. The added man didn't face the Lancers as thirty-seven seconds later, Steve Anthony scored his first of the post season to tie the game up with 1:28 to go in regulation.
