KINGSTON, Ont. (January 4, 2014) - Queen's fell to the York Lions 86-74 on Saturday night at the ARC main gym in Kingston.
Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) picked up a team-high 19 points for the Gaels. Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) recorded a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Gaels losing effort.
After hanging around in the first half and going into the break down 48-42, Queen's fell out of the game with a strong third quarter from York.
Richard Iheadindu of York led all scorers with 26 points, including four makes from beyond the arc. Nick Tufegdzich represented the Lions well on the boards with a game-high 17 rebounds.

Ryerson 75 @ Toronto 59
Fifth-year guard Alex Hill notched 22 points and became U of T's all-time career scoring leader as the Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 75-59 to the No. 4 Ryerson Rams on Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
Hill went 7-for-20 from the floor and 6-for7 from the free throw line, while adding five rebounds and two steals. The Toronto native needed 15 points to pass Dave West's record (1,269, 1960-61, 62-65) and hit that mark in the final minutes of the third quarter on a free throw. Â The American Studies major has 13 regular season games remaining in his five-year career.
"It means a lot," said Hill. "I'm lucky to have teammates who let me shoot about 20 times a game but it's honestly an honour to set that record and hopefully it won't last for another 50 years."
With the loss, the Blues drop to 2-7 and remain in eighth place in the East, while the Rams improve to 9-1 and move into a tie for first place with the CIS top-ranked Carleton Ravens.
Second-year forward Devin Johnson (Ajax, Ont.) added 10 points and four rebounds, while Nicholas Burke, Manny Sahota and Dylan Churchill each had five points in the loss.
Ryerson opened the game on a 14-4 run, but Johnson led a Blues 6-0 rally and to cut the deficit to four (14-10) at the end of the first quarter. The Rams extended their lead early, but Toronto kept pace in the second frame and only trailed 33-26 at halftime.
The Rams outscored Toronto 21-17 in the third and 21-16 in the fourth to secure the 16-point victory.
Jahmal Jones led all players with 24 points, while Kadeem Green had 14 and Aaron Best added 11 in the win.

Waterloo 86 @ Toronto 80
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 86-80 to the Waterloo Warriors on Tuesday night at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

The game was rescheduled after the Nov. 9 postponement and wraps up East vs West division play in OUA women's basketball regular season action.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 2-8 and remain in eighth place in the East, while the Warriors notch their first win of the season and are in eighth in the West.

Fifth-year guard Alex Hill of Toronto led the Blues with 28 points, while Dennis Ankrah notched his first career double-double of 12 points and 11 boards. Adam Plummer added nine points and nine rebounds, while Matt Savel also had nine points in the loss.

Hill held the hot hand in the early goings, notching eight of Toronto's first 12 points, while Jaspreet Gill (Oliver, B.C.) led Waterloo's offence with 10 points of his own. Toronto held a 20-16 lead after the first quarter.

The Blues opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run and led 40-35 at halftime.

Waterloo, led by a combined 21 points between Gill and Matt Gilbota, brought the game within one midway through the third. The two teams exchanged baskets from there and were deadlocked at 60-60 heading into the final frame.Â

The Warriors opened the fourth on a 7-3 run and a Myles Charvis three gave Waterloo a five-point lead (70-65). Despite a rally attempt from U of T, including a Hill dunk, the Blues could not recover and dropped their sixth straight game. Â

Gill led all players with 31 points, while Glibota had 20 points and Myles Charvis added 15 in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Friday, January 10 as they head north to take on the York Lions. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
