Mike Havey named Director of Athletics & Recreational Services at the University of Windsor
Havey currently serves as the acting Director, a position he has held since June 2013, and has been a valued member of the University and Department of Athletics for the past 23 years.
Under Mike’s leadership during the 2013-14 season, the Windsor Lancers have seen great success including capturing four championship titles and hosting the widely successful 2014 ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS Women’s Basketball Championships in March.
"It is my pleasure to announce Mike Havey as the new Athletic Director of the University of Windsor,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Human Kinetics Dr. Michael Khan. “Mike is devoted to success and has the interests of the student athletes as his highest priority. I look forward to Mike leading Athletics & Recreational Services at the University of Windsor to even greater heights."
Hired as the head coach of the Lancer men’s basketball team in 1991, Havey spent 13 years at the helm of the program before retiring from coaching in 2004. He was appointed as Associate Athletic Director later that same year.
Havey has shown outstanding leadership during his 23 years at the University of Windsor through his commitment to our students, coaches, staff and faculty. His leadership also extends into his involvement on campus and in the community.
In 2013 alone he was awarded the University of Windsor’s Leadership Award, and then represented Canada at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia as part of the administrative team for Team Canada.
“I am honoured to be named as the Director of Athletics & Recreational Services for the University of Windsor. To have been selected to lead our team of athletes, coaches and staff in the coming years is a truly exciting opportunity,” said Havey. “There are both challenging and exciting times ahead for Athletics & Recreational Services. To be the unit leader as we attempt to action a major capital building project is an exciting and challenging prospect and represents the realization of a long held dream.”
