Facchini, Horvat, Kowara named OUA athletes of the week
Burlington, Ont. – Ryan Facchini, Michael Horvat, and Arthur Kowara have been named OUA athletes of the week for the period ending October 5th, 2025.
Ryan Facchini, Baseball, Brock Badgers
Facchini delivered a productive day on the mound in the Brock Badgers' 6-1 win over the Guelph Gryphons in the OUA West Regional Qualifier final over the weekend. The general humanities major pitched all nine innings in Saturday's game, helping the Badgers clinch a spot in the OUA Baseball Championship for the second consecutive year.
The winning pitcher faced 34 batters, striking out 10 of them and allowing only one run. Facchini also showed strong command of the strike zone, delivering 78 strikes on 122 pitches for an impressive strike percentage of 64.
The Badgers will take on the Carleton Ravens on Friday in the second of the two OUA semifinals.
Michael Horvat, Football, McMaster Marauders
Horvat's leg led the McMaster Marauders to a 35-16 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday afternoon, in the provincial capital. The Hamilton, Ont. local was responsible for 23 of the Marauders’ points, as he knocked seven field goals through the uprights. This impressive feat tied the OUA single game record, and solidified Horvat’s name in the record books.
The kinesiology student’s longest kick was from 39 yards out while also nailing kicks from 12, 27, 25, 29, 37, and 35 yards out. He also added two extra points in the win.
McMaster will face the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night in front of their home crowd.
Arthur Kowara, Baseball, Waterloo Warriors
Kowara showed up big in clutch moments for the Waterloo Warriors this weekend, as he led Waterloo to victory at the OUA Far West Regional Qualifier. The first baseman from Etobicoke, Ont. helped his team punch their ticket to their fourth consecutive OUA Baseball Championship, hosted by his Warriors this weekend. Kowara’s two massive home runs against Western and his run production all weekend secured a perfect 4-0 weekend for Waterloo,
The team captain hit 8-16 over the weekend, scoring two home runs, three doubles, nine RBIs, and six runs scored, while accumulating a 1.663 OPS.
Kowara and the Warriors will face the Toronto Varsity Blues in this weekend’s semifinal.
