Pearson, Elgadi named OUA Athletes of the Week

FEMALE: Robyn Pearson (Toronto, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Queen's Gaels – Basketball
Queen’s Gaels Robyn Pearson (Toronto) likely has had this past weekend circled on her calendar from quite some time.
On Friday night, the Toronto, Ont. native returned home, hauling in a game-high 20 rebounds while adding 11 points as the Gaels defeated the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 57-33. Pearson also had an assist and a block in 32 minutes of action.
The 6-foot-0 power forward was back at it on Saturday recording 14 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, five steals and one block as the No. 10 nationally ranked Gaels handed the No. 2 Ryerson Rams their first home loss of the season, 80-74.
Pearson, a fourth-year commerce student-athlete, who has started in all nine games this season for the Gaels, leads OUA in rebounds, averaging 12.4 boards per game.
The Gaels currently sit atop the OUA East division with an 8-1 record and will look to stretch their winning streak to five when they take on the York Lions on Saturday at 1:00pm.
MALE: Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) – 3rd yr – Brock Badgers – Basketball
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) put on a show this week in front of friends and family as he led the No. 4 nationally ranked Brock Badgers to pair of victories over the Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors.
On Wednesday night, the third-year undeclared arts student-athlete had a game-high 27 points to go along with 16 rebounds, three steals and one block as the Badgers defeated the Golden Hawks 91-67.
The Badgers were back in Elgadi’s hometown of Waterloo, Ont. on Saturday to take on Warriors and once again 6-foot-7, 210 lbs forward filled up the box score, dropping 24 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds in a 81-69 Badgers victory.
Elgadi was 18-for-35 (51.4 FG%) from the field and 14-for-17 (82.4 FT%) from the charity stripe over the course of the two games.
With his performance this week, Elgadi moved into 16th all-time on Brock career scoring list with 1422 points, surpassing former standouts Kevin Moore, Mike Kemp, Terry Rigg and Brian Bleich.
Through nine games this season, Elgadi currently leads OUA with 12.2 rebounds per game and is second in the conference in scoring, averaging 22.9 points per game.
Elgadi and the Badgers return to action on Wednesday night when they host the Western Mustangs at the Bob Davis Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00pm.
