Pearson, a fourth-year commerce student from Toronto, posted a pair of “double-doubles” in her hometown as the Gaels improved to 8-1 in conference play thanks to road victories against the U of T, 57-33, and nationally second-ranked Ryerson, 80-74. The six-foot power forward opened the weekend last Friday by grabbing a remarkable 20 rebounds and scoring 11 points in a dominating win over the Varsity Blues. The following night, she had one of her most complete performances of the season with 14 points, 12 boards, five assists and five steals as Queen’s handed the Rams their first home loss of the campaign.
UPEI hockey player Marie-Soleil Deschenes, Laval swimmer Geneviève Cantin and UBC hockey player Danielle Dube were also nominated for the women’s award.
Elgadi, a third-year arts student from Waterloo, Ont., also had a stellar week in front of friends and family as he averaged 25.5 points to lead the No. 3 Badgers (8-1) to road wins over Wilfrid Laurier, 91-67, and Waterloo, 81-69. The 6-foot-7 forward was nearly unstoppable last Wednesday against the Golden Hawks, leading all players on the floor with 27 points and 16 rebounds. He once again filled up the box score on Saturday versus the Warriors, dropping 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while also blocking three shots.
