TORONTO VARISTY BLUES IMPRESSIVE IN WEEKEND PLAY

The University of Toronto Blues (4-1) celebrated two victories this weekend at Queen's University, the first win coming against the host Queen's University Golden Gaels (1-2). The Blues now stand firm in first place in the east after pulling off a narrow 10-9 victory versus the Gaels on Saturday.
Two four-goal performances from Tory Merrill (Orangeville, Ont.) and Jen Held (Brampton, Ont.) were crucial in leading the Blues to victory. Martha Ross (Newton, Mass.) contributed four to Queen's tally while Lisa McLaughlin (Whitby, Ont.) added a hat-trick.
The game was closely-contested with momentum shifting throughout. It wasn't until late in the match that the result was decided and Toronto claimed the win. The Blues earned their second victory later in the day 9-6 over McGill yet lost to Laurier on Sunday 11-4. Toronto is in first with eight points in the east and Queen's moves down to third with two points on the season.
