Furlong bounces back as MHKY defeats Windsor
WINDSOR, Ont. (January 20, 2016) – On the strength of a 36-save performance from goalie Colin Furlong, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s hockey team picked up their second consecutive victory on Wednesday night as they edged the Windsor Lancers 2-1 at South Windsor Arena.
WINDSOR, Ont. (January 20, 2016) – On the strength of a 36-save performance from goalie Colin Furlong, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's hockey team picked up their second consecutive victory on Wednesday night as they edged the Windsor Lancers 2-1 at South Windsor Arena.
Furlong, a native of Cambridge, Ont., who was pulled in his last start against Laurentian, had a bounce-back effort for the Hawks (10-11-0) as they moved into a tie for sixth place in the OUA West division with the Ryerson Rams.
Rookie forward Jordan Delaurier of Iroquois Falls, Ont., scored the game-winning goal for the purple and gold midway through the second period. Delaurier was playing in just his seventh game of the year and notched his second tally of the year to give Laurier the victory.
Fellow rookie Mitch Wright of Chesley, Ont., also scored for Laurier, his second of the season as well.
Eric Noel of St. Joachim, Ont., responded for Windsor who led 1-0 before the Hawks scored twice in a minute and a half following Noel's game-opening tally.
Blake Richard of Hamilton, took the loss in net for the Lancers making 26 saves for the home team.
Laurier will now return home for the second and final regular season edition of the Battle of Waterloo slated to go this Saturday, January 23 at the Waterloo Recreation Complex. The Hawks won the opening meeting between the two teams 7-3 back on November 7.
