FEMALE: Paige Schultz (Toronto, Ont.) – 5th yr. – Toronto Varsity Blues – Swimming
Paige Schultz (Toronto, Ont.) captured three individual and one relay title as University of Toronto Varsity Blues swimming team defeated the Western Mustangs in dual-meet action on Saturday.
The fifth-year health/geography major, swept the 50, 100 and 200 metre freestyle events, all in CIS standard times. In the 50 freestyle event, the Toronto, Ont. native finished atop the podium in a time of 25.94 seconds and touched the wall in 55.17 seconds in the 100-metre event.
However, it was the 200 metre freestyle that Schultz showed her dominance, recording a time of 1:59.73, almost five full seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer. With just a month until the OUA championship, Schultz is peaking at the perfect time as her result in the race would have won gold at last year’s event.
Schultz also anchored Toronto's gold medal winning 200 freestyle relay team, which finished the race in a time of 1:54.77, 3.55 seconds ahead of the Mustangs.
Schultz and the Blues return to the pool this weekend as they host the Eastern Cup and OUA Invitational.
