Ghoneim, D'Agostini named OUA Athletes of the Week

FEMALE: Nour Ghoneim (Aurora, Ont.) – 4th yr. – York Lions – Soccer
The York Lions extended their season long unbeaten streak to 14 games this past weekend with a pair of victories, thanks to striker Nour Ghoneim (Aurora, Ont.).
Ghoneim, a fourth-year psychology student-athlete, scored both game winners to help lead the No. 2 Lions to a pair of narrow victories over the rival No. 6 nationally ranked Western Mustangs and the Waterloo Warriors this past weekend.
On Friday night against the Warriors, the 5’8” striker’s goal in the 59th minute gave the Lions a 2-0 lead. The goal would stand as the eventual game winner, as York slipped past Waterloo 2-1.
Ghoneim followed that up on Sunday, tallying the game’s only goal on a header in the 57th minute for a 1-0 win. The victory clinched first place in the OUA West for the Lions with still two games remaining in the regular season.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they host the Algoma Thunderbirds at York Stadium in a weekend double header to close out the regular season.

After a season in which he received the Scott Yanchus Award as the Guelph Male Rookie of the Year and was named the Top Goalie at the University Cup in Halifax, Gryphons goaltender Andrew D’Agostini (Scarborough, Ont.) shows no signs of slowing down.
Despite the Gryphons splitting their weekend series, D’Agostini was outstanding in net turning aside 71 of 73 shots against.
On Friday night on the road against Ryerson, the second-year public management student-athlete, allowed 2 goals on 33 shots in a narrow 2-1 loss to the Rams. In the opening minutes of the game, D’Agostini made a huge save on a penalty shot to keep the game scoreless.
Guelph unveiled their 2014-15 OUA Championship banner to fans at the Gryphon Centre on Saturday but it was the 5’11” 183 lbs goaltender who would bring them to their feet, saving all 40 shots that were sent his way, as the Gyphons came out on the right end of a hard fought one-goal game, downing the rival Waterloo Warriors 1-0. D’Agostini weathered the Warriors storm in the third period, recording 23 saves alone in the frame to preserve the shutout.
D'Agostini and Gryphons will look to avenge their loss to Rams, as Ryerson travels to Guelph on Thursday night for a showdown at the Gryphon Centre.
