Granberg, Sabourin and Falvo named OUA football players of the week
OFFENCE: Ryan Granberg, Queen's Gaels, Running Back
Ryan Granberg (Sherwood Park, Alta.) scored the game-winning touchdown in the No. 6-ranked Gaels' 18-11 win over No. 5 Western on Saturday afternoon. Granberg carried 21 times for 168 yards, and was responsible for all 47 yards on the Gaels' game-winning drive, including his 19-yard scoring run. The fourth-year running back now leads the nation in rushing touchdowns (6) and is second in CIS with 124 rushing yards per game.
DEFENCE: Sam Sabourin, Queen's Gaels, Linebacker
Sam Sabourin (Stittsville, Ont.) led the Gaels in their 18-11 win over the No. 5 Western Mustangs, with 12.5 tackles, including 9 solo stops. The third-year linebacker also made two sacks as the Gaels held Western without an offensive touchdown for the second straight meeting. Sabourin is now second in CIS in tackles, with 24.5 and his five tackles for loss are fourth in the country.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Matthew Falvo, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Kicker
In the second quarter of Saturday's home opener at Beckwith Park, Matthew Falvo (Welland, Ont.) tied the uOttawa team record for field goals in a career with a 35 yarder. Less than three minutes later he took sole possession of the record on a 30 yard boot. The fifth-year kicker finished the day 3-of-4 on his field goal attempts and now has 59 field goals to his name. His third field goal of the day pushed Falvo past the 300 mark for career points, moving him up to 12th on the all-time CIS points list with 302.
