FINAL FOUR MATCH UPS SET IN OUA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
For the Golden Hawks Kaitlin Sauder (St. Jacobs, Ontario) had a team high 10 kills on the night while Melissa St.Amant (Penetanguishene, Ontario) had an impressive 18 digs for the Golden Hawks in the loss. The Mustangs have now earned the right to host the final four women’s volleyball championships this coming weekend in London Ontario.
McMaster 3 vs Waterloo 0- #2 West vs #3 West
Marauder captain Linda Zelek (Mississauga, Ontario) led the way with 11 digs as she led a young Marauders squad to a 3-0 (25–21, 25-23, 25– 22) playoff victory over the Waterloo Warriors this past Friday night. For the Marauders, OUA West Rookie of the Year Sarah Kiernan (Hamilton, Ontario) had a team high 14 points and eight kills on the night, while Stephanie Gilmour (Caledon, Ontario) and Carly Welch (Hamilton, Ontario) each had 11 points for their team. Waterloo was lead by OUA all-star Gaby Lesniak (Hamilton, Ontario) who had a game high 19 points and 18 kills in a losing effort.
Toronto 3 vs Queen’s 1- #1 East vs #4 East
The Queen’s Golden Gaels saw their season come to an end this past Friday night as the Toronto Varsity Blues defeated them 3-1. Toronto’s experience was too much for a rebuilding Queen’s squad. Toronto was lead by OUA all-star Anastasia Danilova (Toronto, Ontario) who had 19 kills, 22 assists and 21 digs on the night. Teammate Caley Venn (Bowmanville, Ontario) added 13 kills for Toronto while Dana Collins (Sudbury, Ontario) had 24 assists in a winning cause. Queen’s saw Amanda Digel (Ottawa, Ontario) shine in her final game for the Golden Gaels as she had 15 kills and 20 digs, while OUA East Rookie of the Year Louise Hamill (North Vancouver, British Columbia) had 14 kills on the night.
York 2 vs Ottawa 3- #2 East vs #3 East
For the second consecutive year the Ottawa Gee-Gees have rallied from a 0-2 deficit in the quarter-finals to knock off the York Lions. With the star power of OUA all-star Laura Simmons (London, Ontario) who had 12 points and 43 assists on the night, the Gee-Gees stepped up and defeated the Lions in five sets this past Saturday (22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-12). Ottawa standout Christine Lamey (Kanata, Ontario) had a game high 19 points including 18 kills and 24 digs in the win. York was lead by third year Candice Paulsen (Scarborough, Ontario) who had 15 points and 14 digs in the loss.
