Trent University women's soccer self-discloses ineligible athlete
The athlete’s participation was in violation of CIS eligibility regulations which requires a student-athlete to complete a minimum of 18 credit hours per academic year to remain eligible the following year.
The athlete in question did not complete the required courses from the previous year, which made her academically ineligible to compete.
In their first four league games of 2013, the Trent Excalibur maintained a 1-3 record, including a 1-0 win against RMC on Sept. 7 and losses against Laurentian (2-0 on Aug. 31), Nipissing (3-1 on Sept. 1) and Queen’s (3-1 on Sept. 8). Following today’s announcement, Trent forfeits its win versus RMC and the three points that came with the victory, while RMC is awarded a 1-0 win and three additional points in the standings. The scores of Trent’s losses to Laurentian, Nipissing and Queen’s remain unchanged.
Trent drops to 0-8 on the season, RMC improves to 1-4-1, while the records of Laurentian (3-1-2), Nipissing (1-2-3) and Queen’s (4-0-2) remain unchanged. All individual statistics for all four games remain unchanged.
As per regulations, OUA has sanctioned a two-thousand dollar fine to Trent University for the violations.
