OUA LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND AT BROCK
The Brock University Badgers host the 2004 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Lacrosse Championship this weekend in St. Catharines, Ontario. The Badgers (9-0-1) earned home field in the championship tournament with a thrilling come from behind 9-8 victory over the previously undefeated Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (9-1-0) last Sunday in the regular season finale.
Heidi Krasnozon came up big for Brock scoring seven times, including three in the final ten minutes of regulation time, as the Badgers went undefeated throughout the regular season for the first time in school history.
Joining the Badgers and Golden Hawks in the Final Four tournament are the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (5-3-2) and the McMaster University Marauders (4-5-0).
Brock will attempt to dethrone Laurier who defeated the Badgers 6-4 last November. Teams in this year's tournament will have to stop the powerful Krasnozon who finished the season as the top scorer in Canada with 32 goals in 10 games.
The Golden Hawks, who will seek to avenge last week's loss to the Badgers, will be paced by league MVP Erica Howard who finished the season with 21 goals and 9 assists.
Toronto which is just two years removed from back-to-back OUA titles will rely on Rookie of the Year Katie Godfrey to provide the leadership up front for the Blues. Godfrey scored 29 goals in 2004.
Rounding out the Final Four will be the McMaster Marauders who beat up on the McGill Marlets 10-3 last Sunday to clinch the final spot in the tournament. McMaster will rely on a balanced attacked from midfielder Tali Landgraff (11 goals) and netminder Katie Lingard in their pursuit of the crown.
