Rachel Aubry put together an impressive season in 2011-2012 on the track, while maintaining an 84.2% GPA studying Human Kinetics.

She also earned a CIS silver medal in the 600 metre race and was named a CIS second team All-Canadian. At the OUA Championships she was twice crowned, winning the 1000-metre race and as a member of the 4 x 800 metre winning relay team.
In her five years at the University of Guelph, Rachel has performed admirably and her dedication to athletics and academics is an ideal all Guelph athletes should strive for.
What is your proudest academic achievement?
My proudest academic achievement would be having just completed my Bachelors Degree in Human Kinetics. Within my university academic experience, I really enjoyed doing my undergraduate research project on the performance of female track and field athletes loading with creatine supplements. It was a great learning experience and gave me good insight into what it would be like to perhaps pursue exercise science research in the future.
What is your proudest athletic achievement?
I've had many achievements with the Gryphons that I really enjoyed and am proud of, such as winning OUA’s in the 1000m in 2012, our women’s team wining the OUA team championship this past year as well as our 4x800m team medaling at CIS every year for the past 5 years, winning gold in 2009 and 2012, and running the second fastest time ever in the CIS of 8:45.
What is your most memorable community related moment?
In the fall and summer I volunteer with Extreme Team, which is a recreational track and field program for kids between 5-12. It is definitely a fun way to be involved in the sport from another perspective and to see how much the younger kids really just enjoy it and have so much fun with it.
What woman has most influenced you, and why?
Of course my mother has influenced me the most throughout my life, and is very supportive of both my academics and athletics and could not be where I am today without her. From a running perspective, I look up to Hilary Stellingwerff who is an Olympian 1500m runner training with our track and field club. She works hard and is so dedicated and determined and has been able to overcome adversity over the years to be the athlete she is today.
What are your future plans?
For now, my future plans are to continue to pursue running in Guelph with the Speed River Track and field club hopefully making future national teams, looking towards RIO 2016. I also plan on eventually doing graduate school at some point but am giving myself at least the year to see how far running can take me and figure out what I want to do next!
