WESTERN AND MCMASTER COME OUT ON TOP AT GUELPH NVITATIONAL
Western won the women’s competition with a combined team score of 249, seven strokes better than the silver medal winning Toronto Varsity Blues. The Waterloo Warriors won the bronze with a team score of 259. Western’s Sue Gleason was the top finisher among the women, firing a 79. Waterloo’s Jamie Stedman came in second with an 81, followed by Christine Bosley of Western and Danielle Greene of Toronto at 83.
McMaster had tied Waterloo in the men’s event with a team score of 306 but the outcome was determined by the lowest score of the fifth player on each team. Mike Matunin of the Marauders shot a 79, edging Waterloo’s Mark Vanderbeek, who finished with an 81. Western won bronze with a score of 311.
Windsor Lancer Jeff Moore had the low round of the day with a sparkling 73, though his team struggled to a seventh place overall finish. McMaster’s Matt Jacobs, Guelph’s Eric Frederickson, Laurier’s Devon Dodd and Western’s Geoff MacLeod all shot 74s, while Cameron Van Oipschot of Guelph and the Warriors’ Jud Whiteside came in at 75 for the round.
