Guelph, Brock, Laurier and Western advance to OUA lacrosse semifinals
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels are hosting the 2013 women's lacrosse OUA Championship from November 1 - 3 at Tindall Field.

FRIDAY

Gm. 1 - 12:00 p.m. UOIT 8, McMaster 11
Taylor Topo had three goals and one helper as the McMaster Marauders took the first win of the day at the OUA women's Lacrosse Championship in Kingston.
After UOIT struck first from Brittany Simmons, the Marauders tallied off five straight to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Simmons would add another for the Ridgebacks but the Marauders managed to hang on for the 11-8 victory. With the win McMaster advanced to game five against Western at 7pm while UOIT moves to game seven tomorrow morning at 10am against York.
Gm. 2 - 1:45 p.m. Brock 14, York 8
Eryn Brown scored twice in the first five minutes and added two more scores and two helpers to finish with a six point effort in a 14-8 win for the Badgers over the York Lions. Despite the loss, Staci Crozier of the York Lions had a standout game. Crozier scored five of the Lions eight goals and assisted on another. Eryn Matisz shut down the York offense in the second half allowing only three scores and none in the final 12 minutes of play.
Brock advances to game six later in the day where they take on the Varsity Blues while York will take on UOIT on Saturday morning at 10am.
Gm. 3 - 3:30 p.m. Guelph 19, Trent 9
The Gryphons struck four times in the first four minutes of the game and went on to crush the Trent Excalibur 19-9 on Friday afternoon in Kingston.Dana Skyvington had five goals and two assists, while Laura Gutauskas and Alyssa Nevills had four goals and three assists each to lead the Gryphon attack.
Guelph had equal efforts each half with 10 goals in the first to take a 10-4 lead and another nine in the final frame to Trents five.
The Excalibur were led by Leah Ogilvie, Jessica Kumka and Marsh Cruderman who each had two goals in the game.
Guelph will now take on Brock in the semifinal game Saturday at 3:15pm while Trent will face Toronto tomorrow at 1:30pm.
Gm. 4 - 5:15 p.m. Queen's 6, Laurier 8
The hometown Gaels were narrowly beaten in their first game at the OUA Championship 8-6 by the Laurier Golden Hawks. In a rematch of last year's OUA Bronze game, it was Queen's jumping out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Teresa Mayo and Sarah Utting. Laurier quickly responded before the end of the first half with Sarah Stanley adding two goals and took a 4-3 lead into the half.
The Gaels managed to even the game on Utting's second on the day but Laurier took the lead on a goal from Jessie Lubert. with just under a minute remaining, Sara Hatch struck for Laurier to seal the win. Torie Beemer took the win for Laurier while Carly Rodgers was left with the loss for Queen's.
The Golden Hawks now advance to take on Western in the second semifinal game tomorrow afternoon at 5pm while Queen's will battle the Marauders tomorrow morning at 11:45am.
Gm. 5 - 7:00 p.m. Western 14, McMaster 2
The defending champion Western Mustangs proved their worth downing McMaster with an easy 14-2 win. Western opened up a six goal lead thaks to a first half hat-trick by Tenyka Snider before McMaster was able to beat Cait Mancuso.
Trailing 7-1 after the first half, the Mustangs kept the barrage of goals coming striking seven more times in the second. Western eased their way to a 14-2 victory. Snider and Lauren Stewart paced the offense for Western each notching hat-tricks in the win while Mancuso picked up the win.
Cleo Duffy and Taylor Topo scored the lone goals for McMaster.
Western now advances to the semifinal tomorrow at 5pm where they will take on Laurier. McMaster faces the hometown Queen's Gaels tomorrow at 11:45am.
Gm. 6 - 8:45 p.m. Toronto 7, Brock 10
In their second game of the day the Brock Badgers had just enough to secure a win and a spot in the semifinal thanks to a 10-7 victory over Toronto.
The two teams went back-and-forth early on with multiple lead changes but the Badgers took a 6-4 lead heading into the second half. Eryn Brown then took over with three of the Badgers final four goals to secure the 10-7 win. Brown also added an assist to finish with a four point day while Chauncey Mills scored three times as well.
Taryn Grieder led the way for Toronto in the loss with three goals.
Brock advances to the semifinal's tomorrow where they will take on Guelph at 3:15pm while Toronto will face Trent at 1:30pm.
