TORONTO, July 9, 2015 - Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Jylisa Williams has signed a one-year contract with Evo New Basket Oberhausen in the German Damen Basketball Bundesliga (DBBL).
Williams, a 5'8" guard/forward, is coming off of a record-breaking season at Lakehead University in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). In 2014-2015, she broke the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Conference single-season scoring record with 548 total points and led the entire country in scoring with an average of 28.8 points per game. She won both the CIS Player of the Year and OUA Player of the Year awards. Williams was also 7th in the country with an average of 9.3 rebounds per game and 1st with 4.0 steals per game, while leading the Thunderwolves to a 2nd place finish in the OUA Central standings.
On February 6th, 2015, Williams made OUA Conference history, breaking the OUA's single-game scoring record with a 50-point performance in a win over the University of Toronto. This eclipsed the nearly 33-year-old record of 49 points set by Candi Lohr in the 1982-1983 season.
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Williams attended Stephenson High School, where she led her team to a state championship and was named Metro Atlanta Player of the Year. She then started her collegiate career at Georgia State University in 2008, where she earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie honors after leading all freshmen in scoring. Williams left Georgia State midway through the 2009-2010 season to pursue two years of service in the U.S. Military stationed in Alaska.
In 2012-2013, Williams played a season at Olds College in Alberta before landing in Thunder Bay, Ontario, at Lakehead University. In 2013-2014, she averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.8 steals in her first season with the Thunderwolves. That year, she was named to her first of two consecutive All-OUA First-Teams.
"I am honoured to have the opportunity to play for the city of Oberhausen," said Williams. "I will bring my passion, hard work and dedication to this team and will aim for nothing less than a championship season."
Evo New Basket Oberhausen had a 5-17 record this past season, and finished 11th in the DBBL standings.
"Jylisa is a great all-around player who can play three positions, score the ball, and play great defense," said Wim Van Ek, Oberhausen Head Coach. "She also has a great mentality and that is what we need in a season where every game will be like a championship game."
