It has been a memorable final season for Lakehead Thunderwolves guard Jylisa Williams, who now holds Ontario University Athletics' single game and single season scoring records.
Williams surpassed former Western Mustang Jenny Vaughn's record of 506 points in a single season, set last year in the 2013-14 season, in Lakehead's game tonight against the Guelph Gryphons.
Coming into the game with 494 points, Williams needed 13 points to break the record. At the half she had 9 points on 3-of-6 shooting before adding 4 more and breaking the record in the 3rd quarter.
Lakehead and Guelph are currently in a tight game entering the 4th quarter.
Williams currently leads CIS in scoring averaging 29.1 points per game, and has scored 35+ points five times this season, including two games of 40+ points, and the record setting game of 50. Williams also leads OUA in steals (66), defensive rebounds (125) and free throws (131).
Earlier this season, she broke the single game record when she scored 50 points against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Feb. 6. The previous single game points record was held by Candi Lohr, formerly of the Brock Badgers, and had stood for almost 35 years before Williams set the bar one point higher.
Williams and the Thunderwolves have clinched a playoff spot and can possibly host a quarter-final playoff game depending on their final RPI ranking.
Lakehead finishes the regular season tomorrow at 6:00pm vs. Guelph. You can catch this game and all the playoff action, live on OUA.tv!
