BLUES GRAB CAMPBELL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Top swimmers for the meet were second-year Oleg Chernukhin and fourth-year Alex Watson, both from the University of Waterlooo, who won three events each. Chernukhin won the 50m and 100m backstroke, along with the 200m Individual Medley. Watson captured the three butterfly events: 50m,100m, and 200m.
On the womens side, U of T's Orlagh Okelly, in her fourth year from Edmonton, duplicated Watson's feat with gold medals in all three butterfly races.
One significant highlight was the emergence of three rookies as double gold winners - Whiteny Rich of Laurier (200m breaststroke and 400 IM); Marie-France Gauthier of the Ottawa Gee-Gees (50m and 100m breaststroke); and Hilary Jackson of Laurier (50m and100m backstroke).
"This was a great meet, " said U of T head coach Byron MacDonald. "The atmosphere was electric with all the cheering and the swimmers responded with some very good swims this early in the season. I think it will give everyone the extra enthusiasm to push harder over the course of the next few months so the OUA finals in February will be great."
