McMaster men's volleyball set for second NCAA Final Four combatant
Having dispatched the two-time defending NCAA champion Ohio State Buckeyes in October, the Marauders will attempt to add another Final Four team to their list of conquests in December.
The U SPORTS ninth-ranked Marauders, who compiled a 6-1 record in conference play this fall to sit atop the OUA West standings, welcome the Long Beach State 49ers to Burridge Gym for a pair of holiday contests on December 29 and 30.
Long Beach State won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) title and advanced to the semi-final stage at the NCAA championship tournament a season ago, before being eliminated by Brigham Young.
The 49ers achieved a 27-4 regular season record and a year-end American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I-II ranking of third, with six players earning All-American status and coach Alan Knipe being named both the AVCA and MPSF Coach of the Year.
Dave Preston’s McMaster team is unbeaten against NCAA opposition at Burridge Gym, since inviting the Buckeyes to Hamilton in 2016 for the first of three matches.
Both halves of the two-match series between the Marauders and 49ers are scheduled for first serve at 7:00 p.m. and will be webcast live on OUA.tv.
Tickets for the event can be found at marauders.ca.
