Hillock, Maas, Forcier named OUA football players of the week

Burlington, Ont. – Evan Hillock, Bruce Maas, and Brandon Forcier have been named Canadian Football Perspective's OUA Players of the Week for Week 8.

Offensive Player of the Week – Evan Hillock, Western



While he doesn't always get the headlines among Western's prolific offence, Evan Hillock continues to be a key figure under centre for the Mustangs, and his Week 8 performance was no exception.

The second-year pivot was once again a steady presence in the Western passing game en route to the team's 50-18 win over Windsor in their final home game of the season. Hillock was efficient through the air once again, connecting on 17 of his 25 pass attempts, good for a 68% completion rate, while throwing for 299 yards on the day.

He would add a pair of touchdowns through the air, connecting with Seth Robertson on a 10-yard pass late in the third quarter, before finding Savaughn Magnaye-Jones on a 39-yard scoring play halfway through the final frame. In between those two passing majors, he would find the end zone with his legs, taking one in from 14 yards out to give the momentum back to the Mustangs after Windsor had trimmed the deficit to just seven.

The Hamilton, Ont. native continues to lead the OUA with 16 touchdown passes, along with a conference-best 68.9 completion percentage and a third-ranked 230.1 yards per game.

Defensive Player of the Week – Bruce Maas, Western



Amidst a chorus of 'BBBBRRRUUUUCCCCEEEE' cheers from the Western sidelines, Bruce Maas made his presence felt in a big way against Windsor, wreaking havoc on the defensive side of the ball for the undefeated Mustangs.

Maas first impactful play of the game came early in the second quarter, when he got the Windsor quarterback Danny Skelton for the sack, leaving the Lancers with a loss of six on the play. But he wasn't done there, as he made it right back into the Windsor backfield on the following play. He once again powered his way to a quarterback takedown, but this time, he also forced the fumble and promptly recovered it himself. He would continue to be a thorn in Windsor's side coming out of the break, racking up another shared sack and additional assisted tackle for loss, to bring his totals to 2.5 and three, respectively.

The third-year defensive lineman from London, Ont., who was on the practice squad until an opportunity presented itself to step into a more prominent role this season, also wrapped up the game with 5.5 total tackles (two solo, seven assisted).

Special Teams Player of the Week – Brandon Forcier, Carleton



One of the busiest players on the gridiron this week was Carleton kicker Brandon Forcier, who made the most of his many opportunities to break into the Ravens record books on Saturday.

The second-year kicker opened the game's scoring with a 29-yard field goal just two and a half minutes into the game, before closing out the opening quarter's offence with a 22-yard make. He would make it 3-for-3 in field goal attempt just a few minutes into the second frame when he split the uprights from 19 yards away, but he wasn't done there. It was more of the same in the second half, as Forcier chipped in with another three field goals for the black birds. His final kick from 37 yards out – which also marked his longest effort of the day – put him at a sparkling 6-for-6 on the day and atop the list of impressive Carleton kickers with the school's most makes in a single game.

Forcier would also add a pair of extra points to bring his scoring total to 20 on the game, more than half of the Ravens production on the day in their 36-18 win over Waterloo.
